Nicholas was born on 26 October 1975 and attended his first political demonstration at Parliament House Canberra on 11 NOvember 1975. For the next 2 years Margaret and Dennis both worked at the Washington embassy. In 1977 they holidayed in France and Italy.

November 1977, Assateague, Maryland, a beach on the Atlantic Coast. On this fall weekend we saw the snow geese and Canada geese arrive in the adjacent Chincoteague marshes and lakes (in the same National Park area), coming in from the north for the winter.
