The entrance to the hospital is at present unprepossessing

but the new hospital building, due for completion in 2001, with 1000 beds, towers over the present buildings, and will accommodate the whole hospital.
Note the scaffolding on the 26 storey construction - bamboo. We read constantly in the media of environmental damage in China, but use of sensible local materials, re-use and recycling remain basic to daily life in China. This gets no mention in the media, but means that Chinese society is intrincally less wasteful than our own.

Here we are at the meeting/consultation of 30 August. With Margaret and myself are [from left] Zeng Yixin, Zhang Bei and Chen Zhongping. As with Chinese medical consultations, there were a number of other junior staff in the room too.
