The global landmine movement has achieved so much. As the youth of the world, we are the future of this movement. Let us work together in a spirit of peace, friendship and sharing to make this future a great one.

The International Youth Symposium on Landmines 2004; Nairobi, Kenya.

From November 25th – 3rd December, the Mine Action Ambassador Program (YMAAP) and Mines Action Canada (MAC), with its partners in the ICBL are holding a one-week Youth Symposium in Nairobi.

To be held in conjunction with the 2004 Nairobi Summit on a Mine Free World, the Symposium will train young leaders aged 18-26 to become the next generation of landmine workers.
Symposium delegates will be involved in a variety of projects. They will take part in capacity-building workshops, observe the proceedings of the Nairobi Summit, and network with each other. They will also have the opportunity to learn from experienced human rights activists, field workers and mine ban campaigners.

Delegates will have the honour of presenting a youth declaration on a mine-free world to the Nairobi Summit’s ministerial meeting. Youth will also be involved in ‘PeaceJam’, a unique program with Kenyan youth led by Nobel Peace Prize winners Jody Williams and Shirin Ebadi.
This will provide an incredible opportunity for young people to meet other landmine workers and share ideas and experiences about landmine work.Delegates have been invited from countries all over the world.

The founders of The International Network of Youth Against Landmines are very excited about the positive outcomes that will come from the Youth Symposium and look forward to meeting with others who wish to eliminate the tragedy of landmines across the world.
Let’s all make the most of this opportunity and work in a spirit of peace, friendship and sharing to help guide the future of landmine work in our world.
