How to Become Involved
There are many ways in which you can become involved in landmine work. Below are a few methods to get you started.
1. Join the International Campaign to Ban Landmines ( the ICBL)
The ICBL drives the global anti-landmines movement. For more information see our ICBL page. A good place to start, therefore, would be to contact the ICBL worker in your country by Clicking Here. If you need to contact them directly, send an email to the ICBL and ask for help through their Contact Page. The ICBL can even help you start your Own Campaign.
2. Join INYAL
You are also very welcome to join INYAL. We believe that we are the future of the landmine movement and we want to work together to create a safe future for all based on the spirit of peace, friendship and sharing.
With young people from 5 continents worldwide, this represents an exciting time to be a young landmine worker. Once you become a member, you will easily be able to get in touch with your fellow youth members and will be able to draw ideas and gain knowledge from their experiences, as they will from you. This will help us look beyond our own national borders when we are in need of help or inspiration.
For more information on how to become a part of our movement, see our Join Our Network page.
You can also email any of our members to ask advice about how they started their landmine work. To do this, simply follow the prompts in the Our Members page.
3. Sponsor a de-mining project
You can donate to a de-mining project in Angola. De-mining is obviously one of the most important focuses of the global anti-landmine movement. Indeed, this is the only way in which many people can ever live a ‘normal life’.
The project you can donate to is run by a German based organization called MgM – 'People against Landmines'. MGM specializes in de-mining roads in Angola. Your donation will greatly assist MgM to continue to increase its commitment to the de-mining of Angola.
To make a donation towards de-mining operations, simply go to MgM's Homepage and click on their Online Donations Form. Alternatively, you can simply go to their Online Donations Form directly.
4. Sponsor a school
If you are representing a school, you may wish to sponsor a school in Africa that is affected by landmines through MgM's aid campaign called ‘Students help Students in Africa’. In heavily mined areas, parents face tremendous risks when sending their children and youth to school. Everyday they worry about their lives because of landmines.
With your sponsorship, MgM can greatly reduce these risks by de-mining the regions around schools. If you are not involved in a school yourself, perhaps you would like to lobby the principal of your local school to get involved in this program.
If you have ideas and would like to participate in the campaign with your class-mates and friends, introduce your own personal aid campaign. Include pictures of yourself and your campaign. There are lots of ideas such as:
• benefit concerts
• school parties and school dances
• donation campaigns
• lotteries, raffles and tombolas
• auctions
• sports events
• plain clothes days
For more information on sponsoring a school, simply email MgM at waystoschool@mgm.org.
5. Education
An important part of approaching the issue of landmines is education. It is absolutely essential that children and youth are aware of the horrible affects that landmines have had and continually to have on thousands of people around the world. It is also vital for youth to realise that landmines are continually being produced, traded and used around the world. This will help train the next generation of landmine workers.
If you would like to get involved in educating children and youth from your community, the best option would be to ask your local school for permission to give a talk about landmines, in front of an assembly or even to individual classrooms. If you would like some advice on the best way to do this, please email Kristy Fleming from The Australian Youth Against Landmines Association. She has had experience in this area and she can tell you how to get things started. To ask Kristy how you can speak at schools email her at: anti_landmines@mail2Director.com
Here you can see her with a community in Cambodia .

Donations from school children were used to make this well.
The community organised to welcome her, in order to say thank you.
